Apply to be an alpha tester

We are looking for a small group of early testers to try the first version of FunctionalMe and tell us what actually helps, what gets in the way, and what needs to change.

Who we're inviting

We are looking for adults in the United States who know what it is like to live with shifting capacity. You do not need a formal diagnosis, but many of the people FunctionalMe is built for live with things like:

  • ADHD or other attention differences
  • Autism or sensory processing differences
  • Complex trauma or PTSD
  • Chronic pain, fatigue, or autoimmune conditions
  • Depression, anxiety, or mood disorders
  • Brain injury or cognitive fatigue
  • Executive functioning challenges that make daily tasks hard to manage

If you see yourself in any of this and want tools that adapt to you instead of demanding more, you are in the right place.

What alpha testers do

As an alpha tester, you will:

  • Use the early version of FunctionalMe in your real life, as you are able
  • Try check ins, routines, journaling, and other core features
  • Share honest feedback about what feels supportive, confusing, overwhelming, or missing
  • Report bugs or glitches when you notice them

There is no expectation that you use the app every day or that you have perfect routines. We are specifically building this for people who cannot always be consistent.

What you can expect from us

If you are selected for the alpha group, you can expect:

  • Free access to the alpha version of the app while testing
  • Simple, clear updates as new features are added
  • Short feedback forms that respect your time and energy
  • Opportunities to share more detailed input if you want to
  • A trauma informed and harm reduction approach to how we design and ask for feedback

We will be honest about what the app can and cannot do at this stage. Things may break. Some ideas will change. Your lived experience will help guide those decisions.

What we ask from our testers

To keep the alpha group safe and useful, we ask that testers:

  • Are willing to answer some personal questions in the application about their health, mental health, and daily functioning
  • Are comfortable testing an unfinished product that may have bugs or missing features
  • Can give occasional feedback in writing, even if it is brief
  • Do not rely on the app for crisis support or emergency care

There is no requirement to share everything about your history. You can skip any question that feels unsafe. We are trying to understand who the app is helping, not to judge or diagnose you.

How the application process works

1. Fill out the application form

We ask about your age, location, lived experiences, access needs, and how you hope the app might help you.

2. We review the applications

We ask about your age, location, lived experiences, access needs, and how you hope the app might help you.

3. We select our alpha testers

We ask about your age, location, lived experiences, access needs, and how you hope the app might help you.

How we handle sensitive information

The alpha application asks about topics like mental health, trauma, substance use, and medical conditions because we want to make sure we are testing with the people FunctionalMe is meant to support. We know this information is sensitive.

  • We do not sell your data or use it for advertising
  • Application responses are stored securely
  • Only the core team sees application details
  • You can ask for your application data to be deleted at any time
  • Sharing this information does not create a clinical or therapeutic relationship

Inside the app, you choose what to track and what to keep private. Sensitive information you record in the app is not used for marketing.

You can read more in our App Privacy Policy.

Eligibility for the Alpha Test

We want to make sure the alpha version of FunctionalMe is tested in a way that is safe for users and realistic for our small team to support. Because the app is in an early stage, we have to limit who can participate.

Who's eligible

You can apply if you:

  • Are 18 or older
  • Live in the United States
  • Have a Google account
  • Experience fluctuating energy, focus, memory, motivation, or capacity
  • Have challenges with executive functioning related to neurodivergence, trauma, chronic illness, or cognitive fatigue
  • Are comfortable using an unfinished app that may have bugs
  • Can offer occasional written feedback
  • Understand that FunctionalMe is not a clinical tool, crisis service, or replacement for treatment

Who is not a good fit for the alpha stage

Because this is an early build with no clinical oversight, we cannot accept testers who currently:

  • Need crisis stabilization or acute mental health support
  • Need a tool for managing safety risks, self harm, or severe emotional dysregulation
  • Require a structured therapeutic intervention
  • Need professional guidance or monitoring for their symptoms
  • Would be put at risk by using an app that may break or behave unpredictably

You do not have to have it all together

You do not need perfect routines, stable health, or a tidy life to be a good tester. In many ways, the opposite is true. If your capacity changes a lot, if you struggle with executive functioning, if you have tried other tools that made you feel worse instead of supported, your perspective matters here.

FunctionalMe is being built for people like you. If you have the bandwidth and interest to help shape it, we would be grateful to read your application.
